The pump supplies the hydraulic pressure for the different consumers (actuators) of the Alfa Romeo TCT system and stores it in the pressure accumulator. The pump consists of a small gear pump and an electric motor. If the pump motor fails, the TCT cannot perform clutch operations or gear changes due to the lack of pressure.

The pump relay is responsible to switch on / off the hydraulic pump. A broken relay causes the pump to fail priming. Without hydraulic pressure, the system cannot engage the gears or clutch.

Selection / Clutch Sensor – Alfa Romeo Selespeed
The Selespeed selection and engagement position sensors (Potentiometers) are responsible to detect the current state of the gear engagement. The clutch sensor is responsible to detect the state of the clutch. There are three of these sensors installed on the Selespeed unit. A faulty sensor can prevent the car to engage gears or shift.

Service Kit Hydraulic Pump – Alfa Romeo 159 / Spider Selespeed
