Parking Lock Solenoid – Audi R8 S-tronic

The parking lock solenoid valve N486 is part of the electrohydraulic parking lock system in the S tronic transmission of the second-generation Audi R8. It controls the mechanism that holds the parking lock piston in the P-OFF position and provides an additional safety function to prevent unintended engagement of the parking lock while the vehicle is moving. If the parking lock needs to remain disengaged after the engine is switched off, N486 remains energized and mechanically secures the parking lock piston in the P-OFF position. When the solenoid valve is de-energized, the locking mechanism releases the piston, allowing the parking lock spring to move it into the P-ON position. A defective N486 can cause parking lock malfunctions, warning messages, or problems engaging and releasing position P.
